Rick Springfield & Richard Marx
Event Details
With over 30 million albums sold, Marx’s career started strong with his debut album and continued with 1989’s Repeat Offender, which went quadruple-platinum. Known as the only male artist whose first seven singles reached Billboard’s Top 5, he has also penned No. 1 songs for other artists over four decades. His writing credits span a star-studded roster, from Barbra Streisand to Luther Vandross, with whom he won the 2004 Grammy for Song of the Year with “Dance with My Father.” In 2020, he released Limitless, followed by his memoir, Stories to Tell, a national bestseller whose soundtrack also achieved commercial success.
In 2022, Richard Marx marks 35 years as a recording artist and 38 as a professional songwriter. He first found success in 1984 with the Kenny Rogers hit “What About Me,” which he co-wrote. Now, Marx is releasing Songwriter, an ambitious album featuring 20 tracks spanning pop, rock, country, and ballads. Reflecting on his diverse career, Marx explains, “I’ve had the opportunity to write all kinds of songs with, and for, all kinds of artists. It finally occurred to me to record an album of my own that touches on multiple genres I love.” Songwriter includes recent collaborations with Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Matt Scannell, and even his sons, Jesse and Lucas Marx.
Beyond music, Marx has dedicated time to charitable causes like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, for which he has raised over $4 million. His three-decade touring career has built a global fanbase that continues to grow. Living with his wife, Daisy Fuentes, in Malibu, California, Marx remains grateful for his career’s longevity and the chance to share Songwriter, a personal dream fulfilled. “I still have a bunch of cards up my sleeve,” he says, expressing excitement for the future.
